Lords & Larders

An island economy, carried by hand.

Lords & Larders is a medieval logistics game. Lay the roads, link the workshops and keep your village fed, while serfs carry every trunk, stone and sack from the forest to the larder.

One island, alive.

It starts hidden under low cloud. Explore it to find timber in the woods, boulders for stone, fish in the lakes, and coal and gold in the mountains. The weather turns, the seasons change, and wolves prowl after dark.

Then winter comes.

The lakes freeze and the fisher cuts through the ice. Mortar won’t set, so building slows. What the larder holds by the first snow has to last until spring.

You draw the plan.

Place every workshop, lay roads at one stone a tile, and keep the fields within ten tiles of the farm. Layout is the puzzle: every tile of road is a tile somebody has to walk.

Every good is carried.

Trunks to the sawmill, corn to the mill, flour to the bakery, pigs to the butcher, ore to the metallurgist. Serfs carry it all along your roads, and nothing moves unless somebody carries it.

People work, and people get hungry.

Train every trade at the school, from woodcutter to vintner, then keep them fed and housed. Hungry people walk to the inn for bread, sausages, fish or wine, and anyone sleeping rough goes hungry twice as fast.

Fill the larder.

Start with a storehouse, a longhouse and a handful of people, and grow a village that feeds itself. Lords & Larders is free to play in your browser and on iPad. It’s in early development, and the playtest is by invitation.
